Torero Stadium - San Diego, Ca
Recognized as America’s Finest City, San Diego is a treasure. Sparkling beaches, year round temperate climate, rolling hills and a chill Southern California vibe, makes San Diego a vacationer’s paradise and the ideal destination for sport tourism and athletic events. The beautiful University of San Diego (USD) campus is designed in 16th century Spanish Renaissance architecture style to pay tribute to its San Diego Catholic heritage as well as the Universidad de Alcala in Spain. Travel+Leisure named USD one of the most beautiful campuses in America. A designation consistent with the mission of the campus at its origin when the campus founders declared, “beauty will attract them; goodness will lead them; but the truth will hold them.” This scenic campus sits atop a mesa known as Alcala Park which overlooks Mission Bay (home to SeaWorld San Diego), the beach communities of Mission, Ocean and Pacific Beach and is just a couple of miles from Downtown San Diego. The University of San Diego is home to the NCAA Division I USD Toreros who compete in the West Coast Conference (WCC). The quality of the athletic facilities equals the beauty of the campus at large. The facilities at the University of San Diego include the Jenny Craig Pavilion (JCP), Torero Stadium, Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center, USD Sports Center Pool, USD Softball Complex and the Fowler and Cunningham Field.
Torero Stadium on the campus of the University of San Diego is an awesome stadium that sets the tone for exciting athletic events. With cozy confines (6,000 seats), the natural grass field is perfect for soccer, football, lacrosse and rugby. Aside from playing host to USD soccer and football, Torero Stadium has seen its share of professional sport. Torero stadium is currently the home venue for the San Diego Legion professional rugby team. Historically, Torero Stadium was also home to the San Diego Spirit (women's professional soccer team that played in the Women's United Soccer Association). The USA Men's Rugby Eagles have hosted international competition here, the LA Galaxy and US Women's National Soccer Team have played friendlies at Torero Stadium and the New England Patriots have used it is a practice facility. Amenities at Torero Stadium include field lighting, LED videoboard, press box and coaches box. Fans enter Torero Stadium through Eagen Plaza a 10,000 square foot outdoor pavilion that separates Torero Stadium from the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
