First established in 1897, San Diego State University (SDSU) is the oldest higher education institution in San Diego. San Diego State has a rich athletics tradition with an engaged student body (enrollment of more than 36,000) devoted to their SDSU Aztecs. Aztec Hall of Famers such as Tony Gwynn, Stephen Strasburg, Marshall Faulk and Kawhi Leonard have paved the way for continued greatness. San Diego State University has an excellent on- campus sports complex that features dynamic venues, efficient use of space and a touch of history. SDSU venues include Peterson Gym, Aztec Aquaplex, Aztec Tennis Center, Aztec Lacrosse Field, SDSU Softball Stadium, The Sports Deck, Tony Gwynn Stadium, Aztec Recreation Center (ARC) and Viejas Arena. San Diego State Football plays at the nearby San Diego County Credit Union Stadium– just a trolley stop away.

Opened in 1961, Peterson Gym has been a landmark sport event venue on the San Diego State University campus. Peterson Gym is currently the home of San Diego State Women's Volleyball and has previously hosted conference championship tournaments. Unique in size for San Diego, Peterson Gym has seating for 3,668 spectators. This capacity makes it a highly desirable large gym/ small arena event venue. The San Diego State campus is centrally located with easy freeway access and on- campus light rail stops. SDSU is a vibrant campus with a real sense of place. Peterson Gym is an amazing athletic facility for cheerleading, martial arts (jiu jitsu, judo, karate, kendo, sumo or taekwondo), volleyball and basketball events.
