Stylehawk Event Services offers venue sourcing, event planning, event management, and event coordination for a variety of sporting events and competitions throughout Southern California. Long Beach Venue Sourced to Meet Specific Event Needs
Stylehawk Event Services was working with Legendary Competitor, a company that hosts athletic and endurance-based events, to manage their CrossFit events. It was through that relationship that we were introduced to the Los Angeles Reign, a team in the National Pro GRID League (NPGL).
If you aren’t familiar with the NPGL, think CrossFit Games, but in a co-ed team format. NPGL competitions feature a series of weightlifting, body-weight, and other athletic elements that are completed by teams in a head-to-head race. Currently, there are eight professional teams across the United States in the NPGL, and the Los Angeles team needed our help to coordinate their two home contests.
The first thing we did was identify a professional arena in the Los Angeles area that would fit their facility needs, which included:
- 4,000+ seats
- Enough floor space to accommodate the competition, as well as an area to build the competition apparatus, an equipment prep area, TV production areas, and room for staff staging
- Broadcast TV production-ready
- Adequate locker rooms, weight rooms, and other support rooms
- Hospitality space
- Box office services
- Vendor space
- Access to meeting rooms in advance of the competition day
After searching our extensive database of Southern California sporting event venues, we booked the Walter Pyramid at Long Beach State for the Reign’s two Saturday competitions.
In partnership with Legendary Competitor, we also helped the Los Angeles team source a local practice facility, and we managed practice competitions at a local CrossFit in the time leading up to the league contests.
When the NPGL decided they wanted to host the final competition in Long Beach, Stylehawk Event Services helped source a venue for that event. Since the Walter Pyramid at Long Beach State was not available for the date of the final competition, we assisted the NPGL with booking the event at the Bren Center at UC Irvine.
Event Planning, Coordination, and Management for Two Days of Competition
The Reign also hired Legendary Competitor, who subcontracted with Stylehawk, to serve as the event coordinator and manager for their two Long Beach competitions. For an event this large, there are a lot of details, and Stylehawk was able to effectively execute all of them and deliver two seamlessly run events. Some of the details handled by Stylehawk included:
Ticketing: In partnership, Stylehawk and Legendary Competitor developed a ticket manifest and handled the entire ticketing process.
Event Staffing: We developed an organization chart, created job descriptions for the event management team, and filled staff positions with a mix of paid and volunteer individuals.
Event Logistics Coordination: Stylehawk developed an event timeline, created event diagrams, contracted with outside companies for security and custodial services, worked with vendors to ensure timely deliveries, coordinated with campus service providers, helped procure the needed event insurance, and facilitated the creation of event signage.
Operations Supervision: Stylehawk managed the event setup, which included overseeing the in-house setup staff and both the team and league production teams. We also served as production managers and as a liaison for the TV production team.
Event and Venue Management: The Stylehawk team briefed and deployed event staff, including front-of-house staff, box office staff, volunteer staff, security team members, and police officers. We developed and executed a parking plan, and managed the entire event to ensure that all competition needs were met, the facility was protected, and all of the event’s stated objectives were achieved.
Sponsor Facilitation: We developed the physical space needed for the event’s sponsors and activations.
